Location The contractual base for this post is Edinburgh, however, opportunities for flexible and smarter working are offered, including homeworking and use of office space in Glasgow

We have an important and rare opportunity to lead the Visual Arts work at Scotland’s public body that supports the arts, screen and creative industries; as a development organisation, a funder and as an advocate working across Scotland and internationally.

Creative Scotland is seeking an inspirational and confident Head of Visual Arts to lead our work in this area and to join our committed and knowledgeable team.  The successful candidate will lead on the strategic development of visual arts across Scotland, the UK and internationally in support of Creative Scotland’s strategic priorities and our role as a funder, advocate, influencer and development organisation.

The role requires someone with leadership experience in the visual arts sector, a deep understanding of practise, equalities, the needs of artists and an ability to work across contexts. As a critical role in the support and development of visual arts in Scotland, it involves working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including multi-art form organisations, to develop close strategic partnerships.

The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of working in visual arts at a senior and strategic level, with a track record of successful project and partnership management. Our ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in visual arts internationally and professional influence that will help Creative Scotland in its ambition to unlock new opportunities for artists in local communities and on a national and international level, drawing on Scotland’s enormous cultural strengths.

As part of our Arts Communities and Inclusion directorate, knowledge and thinking will drive creative development programmes to enable more people from all parts of society to access, participate in and value a range of artistic activities. The postholder will require the ability to demonstrate the skills to develop and manage a range of projects and funding programmes, including undertaking assessments and budget management.

This stimulating role requires excellent communication, interpersonal skills and proven leadership and people management skills. You will be dedicated to delivering our commitment to equalities, diversity and inclusion, making it integral to everything we do.
